1. REPORTED SPEECH – UNIT 10 - ENGLISH 11 Những thay đổi trong lời nói gián tiếp: 1. Thay đổi động từ: Thì của các động từ trong lời nói gián tiếp thay đổi theo một nguyên tắc chung là lùi về 1 thì : HTĐ QKĐ QKHT 2. Thay đổi về đại từ nhân xưng, đại từ sở hữu, tính từ sở hữu: Subject Object Possessive adj. ( của ) I me my We us our You you your He him his She her her It it its They them their 3. Thay đổi về từ chỉ thời gian và nơi chốn Trực tiếp Thay đổi trong câu gián tiếp Today/ tonight that day/ that night Yesterday the day before/ the previous day last month/ night the moth before / the previous month/ night Tomorrow the following day/ the next day this moth that month The day before yesterday Two days before The day after tomorrow In two days’ time next month/ week. the month after / the following month/ week Here there Now then Ago before This that These those I/ Reported speech with conditional ( câu tường thuật với câu điều kiện) 1. Câu điều kiện loại 0 - Khi câu nói trực tiếp thể hiện một chân lý hoặc một hành động lặp lại thường xuyên, thì của động từ trong câu gián tiếp vẫn không thay đổi Eg 1: “ Flowers die if they don’t get any water” he said He said (that) flowers die if they don’t get any water. Eg 2 : My father said, “ If I drink coffee before bedtime, I can’t sleep”. My father said (that) If he drinks coffee before bedtime, he can’t sleep. Câu điều kiện loại 1 -Nếu lúc tường thuật, điểm thời gian được đưa ra trong lời nói gián tiếp vẫn chưa qua, thì của động từ và trạng từ thời gian vẫn được giữ nguyên Eg: My mother said, “ If you miss the bus, you’ll be late for school” My mother said If I miss the bus, I’ll be late for school” -Nếu lúc tường thuật, hành động đó đã xảy ra, đã là sự thật thì câu điều kiện loại 1 chuyển thành câu điều kiện loại 2 ( có nghĩa là động từ phải lùi về 1 thì) Eg: My mother said, “ If you miss the bus, you’ll be late for school” My mother said If I missed the bus, Iwould be late for school” Eg: The advertisement said; “If you answer the questions correctly, you may win one million dollar” The advertisement said that I might win one million dollar If I answered the questions correctly. Câu trực tiếp có dạng câu điều kiện loại 2 hoặc loại 3: Eg: He said; “If I knew her address, I would write to her” He said that he would write to her If he knew her address Eg: She said, “If I had enough money, I would buy a new bicycle.” She said (that) if she had enough money, she would buy a new bicycle.
2. Eg: The teacher said, “If John had studied harder, he wouldn’t have failed his exam.” The teacher said (that) if John had studied harder, he wouldn’t have failed his exam. II/ Reported speech with to-inf and gerunds ( tường thuật với to-inf hoặc V-ing ) Động từ chính V1 Động từ chính Ving S + should/ ‘d better + V1 advised + V1 Sorry/ I’m sorry. apologized (to sb) for S + will/ won’t + V1 promised Thanks/ Thank you thanked for Can/could + S + V1 asked + O Why don’t S + V1 . ? suggested Let + O + V1 offered Let + O suggested please begged/ offer please suggested/ insisted on ‘d like + V1 wanted want + V1 dreamt of ‘d like + O + V1 wanted + O congratulation congratulated + O+ on Don’t forget/Remember + V1 reminded S + forget + to-inf admitted Would (S) like + V1 invited Okay/ all right/ S agree agreed S + must +V1 told + O Ex: He said, “Would you like to go out for a drink?” > He invited me to go out for a drink. Ex: “I’m sorry I’m late,” Peter said. > Peter apologised for being late. Ex: He said to me; “Let’s go home”-> He suggested going home Rewrite the sentences into reported speech. 1. “I’m sorry I broke the glass”, said Peter. Peter apologized. 2. “Why don’t you put your luggage under the seat?”, he asked. He suggested 3. “Keep away from this area”, said the security guard when we approached the fence.
